What kinematic and hydrodynamic turning modes are used by juvenile/adult D. pealeii and adult Illex illecebrosus and how do they compare with adult cuttlefish?
These studies aim to integrate kinematic and hydrodynamic data to identify common turning modes, link propulsor movements with their momentum consequences, and quantify vortex-wake features that have concomitant propulsive benefits. I am investigating the range of turning approaches employed by cephalopods throughout development and quantitative data for assessing whether maneuverability differences exist between neutrally buoyant cuttlefish that depend heavily on fin propulsion and negatively buoyant squid that rely predominantly on jet propulsion. |
